Front load, top load or semi-automatic: which washing machine suits you?
The right washing machine depends on how much you wash, how much space you have and how hands-on you want to be.
Semi-automatic
Separate wash and spin tubs, simple controls and low running costs. A good choice if you want control over every wash and have a steady water supply.
Fully automatic top load
Load from the top, choose a program and the machine does the rest. Easy on the back and quick for everyday loads.
Fully automatic front load
The gentlest wash and usually the lowest water use, with features such as steam wash and higher spin speeds for faster drying.
Capacity
As a rough guide, 6–7 kg suits 2–3 people, 7–8 kg suits 3–5 people and 9 kg or more suits larger families or frequent bedding washes.
